Punjab Human Capital Investment Project, an initiative of Punjab Social Protection Authority, and NRSP District Teams jointly organized Awareness Walks to create awareness about birth registration in various union councils in District Bahawalpur. These Awareness Walks were held in Basti Ramaan, Tehsil Bahawalpur City and Mauza Jalalabad, Tehsil Bahawalpur Saddar. Earlier, a Coordination Meeting was also held with the Deputy Director of the Local Government District Bahawalpur with the aim of facilitating birth registration at the community level. In these tehsils’ union councils, the birth registration of children under the age of 5, belonging to Benazir Income Support Program related households, was done.

On this occasion, PHCIP District Focal Person Muhammad Zain ul Abedeen, addressing the attendees of these Awareness Walks, elucidated important points regarding birth registration. He said is necessary for parents to register their child in their respective union council within 60 days of birth. In case of non-registration within 60 days, registration of birth up to the age of 7 years will have to be done as per schedule with a late fee. He clarified that it is the first and foremost responsibility of the parents to register the birth of their children in a timely manner so that they can obtain the National Identity Document in future with ease.
